Both internal (genetic makeup, nutrition) and external (environmental) factors are responsible for ageing skin. Due to the natural changes in the connective tissue, the skin's strength and elasticity start to decrease in our twenties and thirties already, and our facial skin is no exception, either. Over time, the amount of elastin and collagen fibers decreases rapidly, so the fine lines and wrinkles become deeper and the overall face becomes duller and saggier. These are the most visible signs of ageing,
We can distinguish two main types of wrinkles, namely dynamic and static. Botox is used for relaxing and smoothing dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movements (E.g.: when we smile, laugh, or frown etc.). Whereas to reduce static wrinkles, injectable dermal fillers can be applied.
Botox is an elective, safe medical aesthetic treatment, one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in the world. From the early 2000s it has been used as a cosmetic treatment. Before that it was used as a medicine by neurologists and eye-specialists. If experienced doctors use it appropriately and in the right doses, it serves as one of the most spectacular rejuvenating aesthetic therapies.
Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxic protein produced by a bacterium. If it is injected in the target area, it will block the nerve impulses towards the muscles. This is how it relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles. The effects are temporary, and the number of treatments need not be limited. Injected into the mimic muscles, the effects may last up to 6 months. However, it should be noted that initially most patients will require a session every 4-4,5 months. Later on, the time interval between two sessions may be extended by a couple of months.
Botox is approved for patients who are older than 18, whereas the upper age limit is 65.
Botox therapy is generally appropriate for mimic muscles located in the upper third of the face, but other areas can be addressed as well. If the botox is applied properly, it does not freeze the face and the final result is a natural appearance.
We start the procedure by disinfecting the targeted area. Anaesthesia may not be necessary, as the few tiny injections mean only minimal discomfort. Only necessary amounts of Botox are injected into the skin at the appropriate points. The treatment takes about 20 minutes. Right after the treatment, the patient may experience a little bleeding and bruising as a common side effect. After injection, our patients will see an improvement within a couple of days, however, the maximum results will be achieved after 14 days. Right after the treatment, we advise the mild mimic movement of the treated area. It is very important to stay in an upright position for 5 hours immediately after treatment. Solarium, sauna, sunbathing and exercise should be avoided for 48 hours, just like physical activities and exercises. Facial massage is prohibited for 2 weeks.
In our private clinic we apply botulinum toxin VISTABEL®, Bocouture® and Dysport® for injections.
